Today I was at a large meeting for my faith. As I was sitting in a pew, the family in front of me was trying to pay attention to the speaker, while their son, who is old enough to know better, was crawling around on the floor underneath the pew and causing a distraction for the people behind them...namely me! I had to watch my feet to make sure I didn't hit the young man with my leg.
I remember one time as a young teenager I was taking a tour of the faith of another religion, I thought about something I wanted to remember later and started to write it down, and the tour guide asked me to put away my notepad because the sanctuary is a sacred room that was not to be defiled by such things....
Tonight I was asked by my bishop to talk about such things next Sunday, although I haven't started writing my message yet, I intend to put both examples into play next Sunday at my Church...
We cannot teach reverence to children without discipline, and we cannot expect them to understand reverence if we do not follow the rules ourselves. If it is sacred to us, then when our children see us treat these things with love and respect they will follow our example.
I hope and pray that your week is blessed!
